Frequently Asked Questions

  • If destructive patterns are impacting your work, relationships, or sense of self, that's not weakness - that's being human. Therapy isn't for weak men. It's for men who are tired of the same patterns repeating and want to actually change. Ignoring problems doesn't make you strong - it makes you stuck.

And no, therapy is not just talking about your feelings, it’s about rewiring your brain, body and nervous system. We identify what's keeping you stuck (compulsive behaviors, anxiety, avoidance, stress) and work with the internal conflicts driving those behaviors. Instead of building coping strategies on top of the problem, we process and resolve what's underneath - so you stop fighting yourself.

  • Depends on what you're working on. Some men see significant shifts in 3-6 months. Deeper trauma work or longstanding patterns might take 6-12 months or longer. We'll check in regularly about progress. This isn't indefinite - we're working toward you not needing me anymore.

  • Most therapy is built around talking about your feelings - which isn't how most men operate. You're told to "open up" when what you actually need is to understand the internal conflicts driving your behavior and resolve them at a body level, not just intellectually.

I use Somatic IFS (Internal Family Systems) - we work with the parts of you creating the problem, not just talking about them.

We also work with what you feel in your body - anxiety, tension, numbness - as information. When you learn to notice and work with these sensations instead of escaping them (screens, work, isolation), change happens faster and deeper.

Why this works for men: It's active, not passive. You're doing something, not just venting. Your "resistance" isn't weakness - it's a protective part that needs to be understood, not overcome.

The goal isn't to make you more emotional. It's to help you stop fighting yourself so you can actually live life to the fullest.

  • Therapy sessions are $175 per 50 minutes.

  • Therapy costs roughly the same as one year at a California State University - nowhere near a UC or private university. Most of us don't hesitate to pay for college because we understand we are making an investment, so let’s look at the numbers:

    • Weekly for 6 months: ~$4,200 (26 sessions × $175) = One semester CSU

    • Weekly for 1 year: ~$8,400 (48 sessions × $175) = Full year CSU

    • Bi-weekly for 1 year: ~$4,200 (24 sessions × $175) = One semester CSU

Does a single semester of college transform your life? Probably not. But we understand university as training that shapes how we think, decide, and lead.

University teaches you what to think about your field. Therapy teaches you how to think about yourself - how you relate to stress, navigate relationships, and respond under pressure. These skills determine whether you enjoy the life you're building or just get by.

Men work hard to build careers and reach goals, only to find stress, anxiety, or dissatisfaction follow them there. They "made it" but don't feel different. External success doesn't fix internal patterns.

Bottom line: For the cost of one year (or even one semester) of college, you can change your life permanently. Many people experience lasting change after 1 year, not 4. And unlike college, these skills apply everywhere - work, relationships, faith, purpose.

  • Therapy is confidential and doesn't go on any "permanent record." If you're paying out-of-pocket (not using insurance), there's even less of a paper trail. Your employer won't know unless you tell them.

  • I don't take insurance directly, but I provide a superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Many insurance plans cover 50-80% of the cost. You pay me $175/session upfront, then get reimbursed by your insurance. Contact your insurance to verify your out-of-network mental health benefits before starting.

  • I provide therapy exclusively through secure online telehealth.

Why telehealth? It allows me to reach men across California who don't have access to quality therapists specializing in men's issues. Telehealth removes the geographic barrier so you can work with someone who actually gets what you're dealing with, regardless of where you live in the state.
